Flowers and Tranparency

This blog, or concept moreover, has been something I've thought about for years.

As a physician with a natural desire to take care of others, I’ve often found it difficult to take care of myself. I truly love my life of service to others. What I do doesn’t really feel like work, it is a part of me. It’s what I’m meant to do. But, so often living a life taking care of others, you often forget how to take care of yourself. So, I’ve had to relearn who I am and things that inspire me, heal me, nourish me, and things that make me whole. Because, the more full my cup is the more I have to give to others. We are all connected. This is what life is all about.

Over the years, I’ve come across many people I respect that speak about the necessity of ensuring we are taking care of ourselves. Jordan Peterson is often known for saying “treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping”. Then there is the great truth of ‘healed people, heal people’. To be whole we must make ourselves whole. It’s not anyone else that does this for us. We do it for ourselves. I must do it for myself. You must do it for yourself. We are connected in our mutual need to connect with what is deep inside each of us. Whether that’s your soul or your belief in an innate internal consciousness, there is something deep within each of us that must be known so that we are whole.

When we are whole we are who we are meant to be. We are here on this earth to actualize our fullest potential. When we live a life not doing so, that is where our struggle is. But, the struggle is also what makes it great. We must nurture ourselves as we go through this struggle.

And, so, one day I had to think of myself differently. In the healing profession sometimes it’s so hard to flip the switch to ‘take care of me’ when there are so many people that need my help. So one day I developed the idea of “Taking Care of Your Human”. Just as you would take care of others, or even a pet, you take care of your human. So you are that human. I am that human. And we must take care of our human. She is all we have. She is our guide in this world. She is what dictates our progress in our life path. Our health. Our thoughts. Our relationships. Our dreams to reality. Taking care of her is where our happiness stems.

I will talk about health and all aspects of what that encompasses. Our humans need to exercise. They need good food to eat. They need healthy and vibrant relationships with others. Daily activities that nourish our mind and keep our intellect sharp. And a sincere relationship within ourselves. Admittedly, it may be more contemplative at times, but that is the point of life I think. To wonder about why we are here and pursue our purpose with fervor.

So, I welcome you to join me, my fellow humans, as we each learn to take care of ourselves so that we can be who we are. Healed people heal people, and healed people change the world.
